Fusion of customary Maori whakairo (carving) and contemporary Japanese Mecha designs.

In modern Japanese manga and anime Mecha are giant humaniod robots often controlled by human pilots, sometimes physically within the mech's body or psychically via a deeper spiritual connection.

Lainchbury re-imagines these Mecha from within Te Ao Maori, connecting the pilot to their ancestral tupuna mecha, potentially to aid them in some colonial conflict or as cosmic travellers?

These ideas are ongoing in Lainchbury's practice and regularly feature in his works
